The Soaring Society of America
The Soaring Society of America is the national organization for soaring enthusiasts. It is also the United States representative of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) which is the international governing body for all sport aviation records. Pilots who wish to claim records or badges for soaring flights must be members of the SSA at the time of the flight, comply with FAI and SSA regulations governing such awards and submit claims to these agencies for approval.
The SSA has its home office in Hobbes, NM and publishes a really nice, glossy, monthly magazine covering topics of interest to our community. With a minimal paid staff and many volunteers, this organization advocates for our sport and provides a framework for interaction among its many members including a large yearly convention held at various locations around the country.
The Red Wing Soaring Association is a chapter of the SSA and RWSA membership includes SSA membership and a subscription to the magazine, a value of $64 per year. Please visit the web sites for the
Soaring Society of America
and the
Fédération Aéronautique Internationale
for more information.
